Description of the orientation of your research activities	Discribing the competitiveness factors of SMEs Exploring the innovative capacity of Small- and Medium Sized Enterprises in the regions. Innovation has been identified by different authors as the principal driver of competitiveness. Describing the strength of regional connections between SMEs in Northern and Central Hungarian Regions Describing the possible SME policies in Central- and Eastern European Countries(former socialist states) by understanding the mainstream policies of Western European Countries. How can we find our own ways ? What can we do with best practices ? How can competitiveness be understood on regional levels ? What kind of interdependencies can be found between the competitiveness of regions and the competitiveness of the firms in the regions ? Empirical research was carried out in the Northern and Central Hungarian Regions based on the regional innovation questionnaire of M.Porter at Harvard University and the US Competitiveness Council
Thesises	Regional connections between SMEs are quite week. Basically their sales depend on other regions and Budapest. Their usage of inputs is also dependent on other sources outside the region. The most important possible forms of their cooperation, taking part in regional networks or clusters are not characteristic, they are at the beginning of this route. Innovation activities are not characteristic for most of the SMEs Very few of the SMEs has considerable contribution to the competitiveness of the given region.
Remarks	I propose joint research activity between institutions and researchers, individual resources are scarce
